Gerhard graduated from the Technical University of Munich, Germany, in 2006. Following medical school, he completed a PhD in Neuroscience before undertaking specialist dermatology training at the University Hospitals of Munich and Tübingen, two of Germany's leading academic dermatology centres. He was recognised as a specialist dermatologist in 2016.

Gerhard moved to New Zealand in 2016 and has worked as a consultant dermatologist in both public and private practice since then. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and a member of the New Zealand Dermatological Society.

He also enjoys caring for patients with eczema, psoriasis, acne, rosacea and the full spectrum of general skin conditions. His research background has fostered a strong commitment to evidence-based medicine, ensuring patients receive care that is informed by current scientific knowledge and tailored to their individual needs.

Alongside his private practice, Gerhard is a Consultant Dermatologist at Middlemore Hospital, where he is involved in skin cancer surgery and the supervision and training of dermatology registrars. He is also an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Auckland, contributing to the education of medical students and future specialists.

Gerhard consults privately at Remuera Dermatology, providing comprehensive care for skin cancer and all skin conditions.
